$299.00

This is our program for beginner riders and riders who want to learn the foundational skills for mountain biking!

We know what it’s like to feel nervous and intimidated on the trails! We’ve helped hundreds of women build confidence and skills to get them smiling out on the trails and we would love to help you too!

Our signature Foundational Skills Series consists of 2x face to face skills clinics, usually over a weekend (5hrs in total) on mostly green cross country mountain bike trails at Stromlo Forest Park, Canberra (Mount Stromlo). This series teaches the foundational skills for mountain biking, which is perfect for beginners but also for anyone who has never done a skills clinic and wants to go back to the foundations and/or to build confidence.

Our clinics are fun, friendly and supportive, with a focus on keeping you safe and smiling. Our progressive coaching style means you gain confidence in each skill before moving onto another so you never feel out of your depth.

Our expertise in women’s mountain biking means you get good advice and tips that have been gathered from coaching and listening to the specific issues women face when it comes to mountain biking over the past 10 years.

You’ll learn about bike set-up, body position, gears and braking. You will learn how to safely mount and dismount and start/stop on varying terrain. You’ll also learn some cornering, as well as skills for climbing and descending. By the end of the clinic you’ll be starting to tie all of these things together and be feeling much more confident and safe and enjoying the ride a whole lot more!

Bike Tech Night included
As part of our Foundational Skills Series, you will also receive a free registration for our bike tech session ‘
The Basics - Trailside Maintenance and Repairs’ which runs quarterly at our partner bike shop Cycle Coop in Phillip. This will set you up for success on your mountain bike journey and help you to keep your bike running smoothly and safely and give you confidence to do some basic trailside repairs if you ever need to!
Once you have booked in, you will receive a code to enable you to register in whichever session suits.

FAQs

  1. Can I ride an e-bike?
Yes! The use of E-bikes or power-assisted pedal cycles (Pedalec) which are vehicles complying with the requirements of European Standard EN 15194: 2009 or EN 15194:2009+A1:2009: ‘Cycles – Electrically power assisted cycles – EPAC Bicycles’ are permitted within UCSFP.

    To comply with EN 15194:

    The motor must be electric.

The maximum continuous power output of the motor cannot exceed 250 watts measured at the wheel. Note: A motor that delivers 250 watts of continuous power can produce greater power for very short periods of time, which can be beneficial when pulling away at traffic lights or starting a hill climb.

The rider must pedal the cycle to activate the motor.

The motor must cut-off once the vehicle reaches 25 km/h, or sooner if the rider stops pedalling

The vehicle must be certified by the manufacturer and labelled as complying with EN 15194. The label must include the manufacturer’s name, the motor’s cut-off speed in km/h and its continuous rated power in watts.
E-bikes or Pedalecs must only be used on the UC Stromlo mountain bike trail network and are not permitted on the criterium circuit.

  2. Do you have a bike I can hire?
Unfortunately we don’t offer this just yet, however we are working on it!
Cycle City at Stromlo rents out full suspension bikes ($110 per half day).
Trek Fyshwick have e-bikes for hire for $149 for a full day (pick up and drop off at Fyshwick store).

  3. Do I need to be super fit to do this?
No, but more fitness will allow you to enjoy it more. On the Foundational Skills Series course, we typically cover approximately 3-4km on Day 1 and 4-6km on Day 2. There are lots of stops and you can take a break at any time and watch on.
