Rider levels for Dirt Maidens Ride Club

Beginner

Completed beginner course or equivalent 

Limited experience on single track

Any fitness level

Or low confidence, wanting to cement the foundational skills

Strong Beginner-Low intermediate

Completed beginner course or equivalent 

3+months mtb experience on single track (weekly riding)

Any fitness level

Can confidently ride all green trails 

Developing confidence on blue trails

Low intermediate

Completed beginner course or equivalent 

12m+ mtb experience

Moderate level of fitness

Can confidently ride at trail speed all green trails and most blue trails

Comfortable to attempt most sections of blue trails (both climbing and descending)

Completed Carve/Rock n Roll clinic and developing skills such as wheel lifts, small drops/roll downs, technical climbing, carrying speed through corners (*exceptions can be made for those who have not completed these courses but are confident and consistent with these manoeuvres)


Intermediate

Completed beginner course or equivalent 

2yrs+ mtb experience

Moderate level of fitness

Can confidently ride at trail speed all green trails and most blue trails

Comfortable to attempt all blue sections of trail (both climbing and descending)

Completed Carve/Rock n Roll Clinic and confident with skills such as: small drops/roll downs, wheel lifts, technical climbing, carrying speed through corners (*exceptions can be made for those who have not completed these courses but are confident and consistent with these manoeuvres).


**These are general descriptions and there are always exceptions. For example, someone who has only been riding for 1 yr but has been riding 3+ times per week and is confident and consistent with wheel lifts, maneuvers, technical climbing, carrying speed through corners may fall into the Intermediate category even though they have been riding for less than 2yrs.

***Trail speed is the speed at which most riders will ride this trail and is determined by gradient, surface, features and route.
