Welcome to this blog where we discuss all things women and mountain biking. We try to keep the technical jargon to a bare minimum and share real stories to help you on your mtb journey.
Small improvements implemented consistently equals more confidence, flow, fun and less crashes, bike repairs and time off the bike.
Why women's mtb retreats are so popular
Women’s mountain bike retreats have gained popularity over the past 10 years and for a very, very good reason.
Whilst many people find that signing up to a race or event will keep them motivated to train and prepare for something, many women find events/races too competitive and even if they’re based around social activities, the additional pressure of racing is just a bit too much.
No more apologies
We do it regularly. We apologise for not hearing someone, for needing a drink, for being the last to arrive (even when you’re not late), for putting our foot down when we lose balance, for getting a flat tyre or having a mechanical issue, for being slow….
As women, we do it in life, but I’ve never heard it more concentrated than when I ride with groups of beginner-intermediate women mountain bikers.
Visualisation and affirmations for mountain bikers
One underutilised technique for progressing your mountain bike skills is visualisation. Women who mountain bike are often focusing on their skill or fitness deficit, rather than on their strengths.
Here we look at how small mindset shifts can give mountain bikers of all abilities an edge and set them on a path to progress.
Mountain Bike Trails within 3hrs of Canberra - Mogo/Batemans Bay
Just a hop, skip and jump from Canberra, Mogo is set to become another iconic MTB destination, with 155km of singletrack planned for opening in mid-2024. For those who love a beach getaway, but also love riding, this is already a great place to take your bike, but it’s going to really get a place on the map once the new trails are open. The mild year-round temperature, plus the proximity to Canberra and Sydney will no doubt make this place a super popular mtb destination.
Injuries, illness and modifications for MTB
What modifications can I make to manage my injuries or illnesses so that I can continue to ride my bike? In this blog post, I share my experience of birth trauma and recovery process to get back on the bike, in the hopes that other women may find hope if they find themselves off the bike and in a similar situation.
Great trails within 3hrs of Canberra- Tathra
Tathra lies almost exactly a 3hr drive from Canberra, along the far south coast of NSW, near Bega, on Yuin Country. This gorgeous coastal town is a hidden gem and although the population swells in summer, there is still plenty of space on the superb mountain bike trails and the beach- and a great community as well.
For women new to mountain biking, this trail network offers many options, with many easy green and blue trails, plus a firetrail network in amongst them. There are often women’s social rides hosted at Tathra, and plenty of trails to progress to for those who have consolidated foundational skills.
