Girls Ride Program- Term 1 2026

$336.00
Only 2 available

This 8 week program (1hr45min each session) is for girls aged 8-12yrs and want to progress their riding, make friends that ride bikes and want to do this in a supportive environment with experienced female coaches. This is a skills based program and will be conducted both in an open area, with some riding on green and blue single track and fire trails.

Who this is for:

  • Girls with some mountain bike experience. Girls must be able to ride a bike in a straight line with the ability to steer, brake, change gears independently. This is suitable for girls who have some experience mountain biking on single track.

  • Girls who want to participate in the program. Girls must be interested (not pushed) and be able to follow instructions so we can help them progress and keep them safe.

  • Girls who are keen to learn new skills, and be challenged with their riding. Girls must have good fitness and the willingness to push themselves to improve their fitness. There is no serious fitness component however girls are expected to push themselves to ride up hills rather than giving up and walking up hills.

Who this isn’t for:

  • Girls who cannot ride a bike. If your child cannot ride a bike at all, please check out Pedal Power ACT who run Learn to Ride programs.

  • Girls with no experience on single track. It is recommended that girls start with our Girls Day program to get some skills and experience on single track before signing up to this program

  • Girls with low fitness or unwillingness to pedal. It is recommended that they build fitness on cycle paths and fire trails if possible prior to booking into this program.

  • Girls with advanced mountain biking skills and wanting to ride harder blue trails or learn to jump. Please get in touch if your child is in this category and we will recommend next steps.

What participants will need:

  • A mountain bike in good working order and the correct size for them. Bikes must have gears as well as two hand operated brakes (i.e. no back pedal brake).

  • An Australian standards (and correctly fitted)bike helmet is required.

  • Full finger gloves are required.

  • Full face helmets and knee/elbow protection are encouraged but not mandatory.

  • A water bottle and somewhere to carry it (either a bottle cage or a small backpack).

In this program, girls will learn about body position, braking, using gears, riding downhill, riding uphill and basic cornering skills. There is a strong emphasis on safety, with girls supported to challenge themselves when they feel confident and ride within their limits.

This will take place in an open area, progressing from grippy surfaces to dirt as the progression of the group allows.
