Dirt Maidens Girls Day!
Our Girls Bike Day is all about getting girls together to learn skills, and ride bikes!
We know that girls love social activities where they can be supported by other girls and make friends in a non-intimidating environment.
We know that girls do well when they see other girls participating and having fun.
At Dirt Maidens, we are experienced in coaching girls to build skills and confidence so they can enjoy mountain biking and take those skills back to their everyday lives. Our warm and friendly coaches are also skilled facilitators that aim to support young girls to make friends and understand how to support each other, building leadership skills within our community so the younger girls can see a pathway through the sport.
We know when to stretch our riders, and when they are tired, adapting the session/s to make them a great mix of fun and challenging.
This program is more about having fun, learning skills to be safe, and riding some trails with other girls that ride, rather than an intensive skills coaching program. If you’re interested in progressing skills and riding more challenging trails, check out our Term 3 Girls Ride program.
This program is for girls aged 6-14yrs.
What to bring:
-Girls must bring their own bike in good working condition. Bikes must have two hand operated brakes (i.e. not a back-pedal rear brake).
-Australian approved helmet
-Gloves (full fingered gloves preferred- the first thing that hits the ground with crashes is usually hands!)
-Knee and elbow guards (optional)
-Water bottle
-A healthy snack (for the 8-12yrs groups)
-Sunsmart clothing
-Sunscreen
Girls aged 6-7 years will have a 2hr session (12:30-2:30pm) that includes skills development and games in an open area with a short easy trail ride.
Girls aged 8-14 will have a 3hr session (9:30am-12:30pm), with a mix of skills development and games in an open area and a trail ride.
1:6 participant to coach ratio for trail environment, 1:8 participant to coach ratio for open area skills.
Please note, there are always exceptions that can be made, based on your child’s experience and riding level. Please get in touch if you think your child might benefit from being in an older age group e.g. a 7 year old with lots of trail riding experience may be better suited to the 8-12yrs group.
